Can antibiotics interfere with Chlamydia test results

by bdizzle23, Feb 02, 2009 03:21PM
So I slept with a guy back in april/may 08.  We had unprotected sex.  I had a papsmear back in August as well as STD tests for Chlamydia and Gonnorea.  Both came back negative.  It ends up the guy was MARRIED (i had no idea), and she got Chlamydia from her husband, the man I slept with.  I recently got another STD test (urine test), and again, negative.  I'm thinking, obviously he got it from someone else...but he's claiming he only slept with me besides his wife.  Someone mentioned to me that if you take antibiotics for treatment of sore throats or other infections, STD test results can come back negative.  Is this true?  And if so, what types of antibiotics are known to do this.

yes, this is true.  Did you take an antibiotic for sore throat?  If you were treated with the same type antibiotic that would be prescribed for an std like chlamydia or gonorrhea then it would affect your test results.  Hope this helped.

I did not take antibiotics for a sore throat...but I may have taken one for a yeast infection.  Could this type interfere as well?  Would that mean the yeast antibiotic cleared up Chlamydia if I possibly had it?

Yeast meds aren't antibiotics - they are antifungals.  Antifungals don't cure bacterial infections like chlamydia.

Since you are concerned, why not test again and just find out?
