Can the test for chlamydia be wrong?

by darling89, Jun 19, 2009 05:54PM
I am 19 years old and just had a baby. I've only ever been with one partner, who I had stupidly assumed was clean, since he'd only had one other partner than me. I had routine tests done at the beginning of my pregnancy, and all came back clean except for my RPR which said that I had syphillis. They did a more specific test and found that it was a false positive. I have asked what could cause the false positive and my doctor rattled off causes such as arthritis, some tissue disease...blah. I asked if I should be tested for those things; he told me to wait until I had symptoms??? What the ****? I would like to know now. Anyway..I'm here to ask if a chlamydia test can be wrong. 3 weeks before my child was born, I had a Pap Smear that came back positive for chlamydia. My partner and I had been sexually active and had had unprotected sex a number of times before and after the test was taken. I was treated and had my partner get tested and treated as well, only his test came back negative... As I've said, he is the only person I've ever been with, so I thought "Okay, he's cheating on me." But then we got his results. So one of the tests had to be wrong. There is no way that I could have had chlamydia all the while having unprotected sex with him, and he doesn't get it. Can pregnancy cause a false positive for chlamydia? Something had to go wrong. After all, it wouldn't be the first time I've encountered a false positive...

You could have very well had a false pos. since you were pregnant that makes the chances even greater. ..

Just wanted to ask to make sure was he tested first before he took the treatment? If tested first I would like to think you had a false pos.

Then it is very much possible you had a false positive, I would ease your mind and try not to stress to much you won't ever know if you had a false positive of ir he had a false negative because you both were treated, but I'd like to think you had a false pos.
