Chlamydia Tests

by Kitty1380, Dec 14, 2008 04:24AM
In august i was tested for all STI's, they all come back negative. My partner and i finally met and he had told me he had been tested and was all clear. Of course i trusted him and believed he was fine. About a month and a half ago i started getting real bad back pain, the only symptom i noticed to be different in my body. I had a heap of tests done for things and they all came back clear, so i suggested another STI check which was done. I came back positive for chlamydia. When i was tested the second time the lady told me i had to come back with the mornings first urine sample. The last test i had was done in the afternoon, is it possible that my first test was wrong? The lady that tested me second said that its best to get the first sample obviously because its the strongest. Is it possible my first test was incorrect?

As long as you waited more than an hour, your urine test would be accurate.  I'd guess, and its purely speculation, that you might have been positive the first time, since you had symptoms, but again, that's speculation.

So have you talked to the guy yet?  Has he been tested?  At this point, I'd ask for copies of his test results.  If he was tested before, and it was negative, this is a new infection for him, meaning he's been infected since the last test.  If he lied, and didn't get tested, then you don't know when he was infected, meaning he might not have cheated.  He lied, but didn't cheat.

Lousy options, I know.  :(

See now thats the thing, i got tested by the doctor it got sent away to the lab and i had the results back about 4 days later which is normal right? The first time i got tested i didnt have symptoms, it was just a routine check to make sure i was safe for him.
When i found out i had it i told him straight away, i was calm and didnt accuse him of anything. He had told me that he gets checked every six months and the last time they told him he was clean, though he cant remember exactly when they were done. He asked how the test was done, though if its a six month routine you would know wouldnt you. So heres the tricky part, i got my results printed out......i asked him to do the same. He told me that in his line of work its not possible....i flipped and told him that was b/s. So along with four days of avoiding making a appointment to get checked to see if he has it and to make himself better (if he does have it) theres also the avoidance of getting a print out. Which is why im asking if its possible for it to be missed because theres only three possibilities, the test was wrong( i doubt because i knew straight away there was something wrong when i got the symptoms which ive never had) hes lying about being tested or he was with someone in that time. Yes its tricky i just want to know also if he does get tested and it comes back negative, how my test could be wrong.

Thanks Aj

In his line of work?  I don't get that.  Even if he worked in some strange field where it would matter if you had an std, he was negative, according to him, so what would it matter?

There is a higher chance of his being a false negative than yours being a false positive, but the tests are very sensitive, which you want them to be so they don't miss any infections, but that means that sometimes they are false positives.

The longer he puts this off, the more suspicious I would be.  I don't get not testing - if the boy wants to have sex with you again, he'd test, ya know?

Yeah i know. He told me he would get me any proof i need yet he doesnt know if its possible for him to get the results because hes in the military and they get tested on base at the clinic there. I told him that its information about himself and he is entitled to it. He kept telling me its going to be hard. So i did some research and found out they arent allowed to have the originals though they can have copies. I just want to see the last time he got tested so we know whether or not its possible for him to have a false negative. Thank you for your help. I just want to get to the bottom of it, because the way i found out was because i had back pain that was so bad it stopped me in my tracks at times and for as long as ive know him (9 months) he has complained of a bad back also, is this a regular symptom of it? Another thing too, how long does it usually take for the antibiotics to work? They made me extremely sick the first two days though my back pain started to fade. Yesturday though the same pain started to come back and it feels its getting worse. I havent slept with him since i found out and dont intend to until i see the results, is it possible the antibiotics didnt work or do they just take awhile? Thank you so much for your time and help.

The other question i have is if the first test i had was a false negative, is it possible not to have any symptoms until 6months later? It just doesnt seem right, i dont want to accuse him of anything if it could be me though i just dont understand if i already had it why i wouldnt get any symptoms then when i get told i was positive it was the symptoms that alerted me you know?

by auntiejessi, Dec 14, 2008 09:10PM
You should start noticing a marked improvement within 3 days or so, give or take, of taking the meds.  Its also common to not feel so good when you take them.

Yes, its very possible, and quite common, to not get symptoms for 6 months.  Where is his back pain?  If its very lower back, it could be chlamydia.

No doctor's office will give you the original - they have to keep that for their charts.  They will give you a copy, and you are right - by law, you are entitled to it.

I don't think you are going to get any real answers to this until your bf shows some results, ya know?

Im hoping that the pain im starting to feel again is just my period. I do have to go back to the doctors next week and have a swab taken to be given the all clear. Its really confusing about the symptoms because the pain was so different to anything i have felt and i thought chlamydia symptoms start from one to three wks if you have any at all which would work out right.

His pain is in his lower back and in trying to ask him if he has any other symptoms he just says no and wants to change the subject which is frustrating.

As you said i guess we will just have to wait for his test results. He says hes going to make an appointment on mon, he said he tried on friday but they were closed. As im sure your thinking, things just arent adding up.

Hopefully i will see his last test results and these ones soon so we can get this sorted.

I hope you feel better, and keep me posted, ok?

Hi, hope you had happy holidays. Theres still been no advancement on getting my man to a doctor earlier. I was just hoping i could get a list of the widest range of symptoms you or anybody else knows for chlamydia in men. My man was complaining of a sore back last night and said the pain was going down the back of his leg? Any ideas? Thanks

by auntiejessi, Dec 26, 2008 08:18PM
Have you been having sex with him?  If you have, you might need to be re-treated, definitely need to be retested at some point.

It might cause that pain, though its not typical of chlamydia.  A prostate infection can cause that kind of pain though sometimes.

If he has untreated chlamydia, it could go into his prostate.

Of course, he could have just pulled a muscle, too.

No i havent been having sex with him. That wont happen again until after he's checked.
That is what im concerned about, how long he has gone untreated if he does have it. For as long as ive known him he has complained of lower back pain. Then last night he said it had started to travel down his leg. I have read that back pain isnt a regular symptom though that was how i knew there was something going on with me. He says there is nothing else out of the ordinary happening to him so i thought i would just ask.

Thanks Aj

I don't understand why he's not testing, especially since it means he isn't having sex with you and he's in pain.

Keep me posted,

Ok im really confused. His tests came back negative. If i was the one that had it to begin with wouldnt his test come back positive because i would have passed it onto him right? Is it possible for my test to be mistaken for another bacteria? I have been completely faithfull to him and i was tested before i was with him and it was negative. Is it also possible for him not to contract it from me if i had it?

Thanks

by auntiejessi, Jan 13, 2009 07:51PM
Its possible he's had a false negative, or he didn't get it from you (which is strange since he had symptoms), or maybe there is something fishy here, and could he be lying to you?  I've had clients in the past come in and get treated, then when their wives got symptoms later, they test again and show negative results.  It has to be one of the nastiest things someone could do, but its happened a few times.

I think he needs to be treated, regardless, and you need to go with your gut.

Yeah im not sure. The sneakiest thing he could have done was go to the doctor and get treated before this test though im not sure he would be able to do that. Do you need to go to a doctor and get it from them or is it possible to buy the antibiotics over the counter?  See he told me that the doctor want even going to test him, just gave him the tablets because he said that i had it. I told him not to take them until the results were back and he didnt. The thing is i seen the results and the dates.  They were done just under a month after i told him. Its confusing because my gut tells me i didnt have it before him, i know my body well and it just didnt seem right. Thats why i got tested and thats when i came up positive for it. See i just assume if i had it previously then he'd be sure to have it right? The dates on the tablets are also the same time, and i just dont know whether he would do that. I guess i just dont really want to believe that he would, which is why im questioning could it be mistaken for something else?

I havent been back for my second test so im going to do that before i sleep with him again. I mean its horrible but by that way i will find out if his is a false negative because ill be sure to get it again.

Can chlamydia be mistaken for a UTI or other bacteria?

Thanks

by auntiejessi, Jan 13, 2009 10:05PM
Its possible.  You might not ever figure this out.  :(  You just have to go with your gut.

Yeah i know, im not one to not find out the truth so ill get to the bottom of it. And as the saying goes, the truth always has a way of coming out.

Thank You for your help.

I have a question about the doctors and the results? Do doctors usually ring if the results are negative? He had a phone call from the lab and he said it was them telling him that his results were negative, yet he had picked them three days before. Something is so not right, i think he's hiding that he did have it because hes worried that ill leave him. I asked him to get the results from the previous test he said he had done in feb. He read through it all and said that the chlamydia test was being tested, then he picked up the results on the tues and it said negative. He told me the results were from the previous feb, yet all it was was what he had actually been tested for this time.
Any help would be great.

Thanks

Another thing too, ive started to notice some strange sypmtoms with myself. Mind you i havent slept with him at all since i found out. I took the two tablets and it seemed to go away. Now though im starting to get the back pain back, along with a real pressure on my bladder when i urinate. It also tingles a little and im also starting to get a odor which i have never had in my life. Any ideas? Thanks so much for your help.

by auntiejessi, Jan 17, 2009 10:00AM
You need to see your doctor for your symptoms - could easily be a urinary tract infection.

As for him - nothing seems right about this.  I've worked in this field for a long time, and have never called anyone to confirm that the results they already picked up were indeed negative.  Some offices call with negatives, but they have to much to do to call after already giving someone results.

Yeah thats what im thinking. I have never had all these symptoms together so im going to go tomorrow to get it checked and have myself checked to see if the chlamydia is gone. Auntiejessi do you think its possible they could have mistaken the chlamydia for something else?

He said that when he picked up the results it was a guy and it was close to closing time. The person that rang him was a female and said they were back and all clear. Im thinking it may have been a receptionist though like you i have never experienced them ringing for negative results.

I dont know why i just have a feeling that his is a false negative. He didnt take the tablets because of the results, so if im in the clear then contract it again its for sure his was a false negative.

Have you ever heard of anyone not contracting it from someone that does have it or is it mainly wrong test results?

Thanks Heaps

by auntiejessi, Jan 17, 2009 07:13PM
Oh its certainly possible to not transmit it, and its more likely that a guy wouldn't get it from a female than the other way around.

Honestly, this sounds more and more like a situation where you have to go with your gut.  No test is 100% accurate, so while its uncommon, false results to occur.

Yeah i suppose im going to have to wait until after tomorrow when i get the tests done, and tell the doctor my new symptoms.
Like you said earlier, it may be something i never figure out. Im pretty sure i didnt have it before, but i guess it doesnt really matter as long as we are both healthy.
I really appreciate all your help, you do such a great job here and i hope that gets noticed. You have helped me alot and definately eased my mind when i could have totally freaked out.

Lets see what tomorrow brings hey?

Thanks again.
