Chlamydia psittaci found in birds

Birds need to be clear of chlampydia psittaci in order to be licensed in Minnesota for Child Care.  I was informed that if a bird is an older bird (2 years up) that they would not have this desease as it would have shown up already.  Should all "hooked bill" birds be checked for this illness at any age?  If a bird is kept in a separate room from the children attending a child care program are they safe from illness?

Interesting question since this is the STD forum. I agree, birds should be tested for C. psittaci. Your local vet can help with this.
