by panther77, Dec 24, 2008 06:03PM
Hello, i had an oral exposure and i was diagnosed with Chlamydia the IgG 3.64 and the IgM showed 1.36
what does that mean what is the igM and igG ? why one is higher than the other?

The IgG is supposed to look for an old, or established, infection, and the IgM is supposed to look for a recent one.

However, blood tests for chlamydia aren't all that reliable for diagnosing, and you need to have a urine or swab test to see if you have an active genital infection.

I'd be suspect of this because oral doesn't usually transmit chlamydia.

Well, what I'm saying is that maybe you have a different kind of chlamydia - there is a chlamydia that causes pneumonia, for example, and some of the blood tests can't differentiate between that and the type that infects you genitally.

That's why you need to have an actual swab test done - whether it be orally or genitally.  You've taken the meds, so that's kind of too late, but you might not have the kind of chlamydia that is an STD.

Without proper testing, you might never know.

so you think that if i took the antibiotics (vibramycin) Doxycycline ... it might not cure the chlamydia i have?

what is the 1.36 is it possible that i know the time i was infected from that ratio??? and how?

what is the possibility of getting ghonnorhea or HIV if i got chlamydia ... let's say that the girl had hiv ... does that mean that i got it too with the chlamydia ? or is it possible i get one but not the other????

You should take them, and then get a urine test and a throat swab for chlamydia a month later (not sooner, because you can't trust the results sooner), and make sure you don't have an active infection.

Oh and about the HIV part - you've posted this in the HIV community, and gotten accurate answers.  The chances that your partner had HIV are slim, and its even slimmer chances that you'd get HIV from her.
