I don't understand

by lolavoila, Mar 13, 2009 02:52PM
I'm nineteen years old. I have never had sexual intercourse, but I tested positive for chlamydia.

A few days ago I went to my doctor to get a pap smear because I was interested in getting birth control for two reasons: to regulate my menstration cycle (which has been fairly irregular since I went through puberty) and as a protection against pregnancy for when I do start having sex, in addition to using a condom.  Then today my doctor called me and told me that I tested positive.  I don't understand how this could have happened.  The most sexual activity that I have had is oral sex and that has been only about two times.  Is it possible to get chlamydia through oral sex?

So should I get another pap smear to see if I really do have chlamydia?  What if I just take the medication, will it harm me if I don't have chlamydia?

I would recommend requesting another test before you take the meds... this is only for your piece of mind. If you've never had sexual intercourse than it is highly unlikely that you have Chlamydia.

you can get a false positive and since you haven't had sex I would strongly think you thats what happened in your case.

If the test was one of the new ones that is included with the pap, then you probably had a false positive.  There are a lot of false positives with that.
