I'm not sure if I have herpes

I had unprotected sex and a few days later the inside of my penis as well as the tip of my penis got inflamed and red. It stings like crazy when I urinate. The doctor diagnosed me with herpes but I'm waiting for my blood test to come back to be sure. In the meantime, I started drinking cranberry juice and like magic, the sting went away!  Although the inside of my penis is still red and inflamed, is it possible it may be something else like a urinary tract infection?

They did urine and blood testing which I'm still waiting for the results. Everything is pretty much cleared up (no staining during urination, redness mostly gone) but it looks like there is a tiny blister.  I mean it's so small that I'm not even sure it is a blister and it's been there at least a week and totally painless. Is it possible to have a blister on my penis and it not be herpes?

I totally 2nd Fleetwood's assessment of your initial diagnosis. I think it's just your increased fluid intake that is helping symptoms. Your symptoms do not match up with herpes symptoms that would be inside the urethra.

Did they do routine urine testing for infections? Did they examine your prostate to see if it is inflamed?

Yes that's right, it takes 3-12 weeks for your blood to reveal positive for antibodies.

Your initial diagnosis is dodgy, a swab should have been taken. You must repeat the blood testing in 12 weeks but its good to have a baseline test taken right now so take careful note of the results.

They didn't do any lesion cultures because I didn't have any. The physician said they were all in my urethra and couldn't. They took blood and urine tests.  Every time I drink cranberry juice, the stinging while urination subsides. So you're saying that my blood tests may come back negative but I could still have it?

Cranberry juice really isn't all that helpful to be honest. All the sugar in it isn't a good thing either :(

Did they do a lesion culture of symptoms? If not, and they only did blood work, you'll need to repeat your type specific herpes igg blood work 3 months post encounter.

Did they do other testing too when you were seen?
