). After a few weeks I developed tender glands and radiating discomfort in the medial thigh and upwards along the inguinal glands.
My symptoms were investigated at a veneric disease clinic after 3 weeks; I was HIV negative, hepatitis C negative, and the urethral swab came back negative for both chlamydia and mycoplasma; however, I had no urethral discharge and am somewhat concerned that the test was false negative.
The symptoms have been treated with; consecutively: Azitromax 1g+500 mg for the following three days; doxycycline 100mg x 2 for 12 days, metronidazole 400 mg x 3 for 4 days, and ciprofloxacin 500 mg x 2 for a week.
Still, the symptoms have now persisted for almost three months. The symptoms are vague and variable. Some days I feel totally symptom free, at least for several hours, on other days I have pain in the right groin radiating both to lower abdomen and inner thigh, or a light urethritis mostly on the tip of my penis. I can feel tender glands, but none have been definitely swollen until the last couple of days; now I have at least one enlarged gland.
I have not taken any antibiotics for more than 2 weeks now. Symptoms have been variable but all in all rather stable, not worsening but not diminishing either. I visited a doctor last week; he found nothing on examination and suggested I am too worried. However, I am convinced the symptoms are real. After all, I was reassured that there was nothing and tests came back negative, so it doesn't add up to me how this could be only psychological.
Now, what to do? I sent a urine sample for chlamydia and mycoplasma PCR today; it should be negative by now or what? Are there other tests that can be performed in this situation?
