Really confused and concerned about a possible misdiagnoses of Chlamydia.
Hello all, so waiting until Monday to call my original doctor is killing me so I thought I would ask some advice here. My husband and I have been together for 2 years, I had an IUD/IUC inserted a little over a year ago and called to double check that then I did not have Chlamydia. 2 weeks ago I got a note in the mail saying that my Pap
smear sample had been contaminated and that I needed to come in for another one. Well I went to a different doctor (closer to where I live) to have it redone and she told me I tested positive for Chlamydia. Now I know I haven't had sex
with anyone else, and I know my husband hasn't, I also know that I did not have Chlamydia a year ago when I had the IUD inserted. I have done a lot of reading and I'm starting to think this must be a false positive, or that the test was done incorrectly. From my understanding when you have an IUC they need to take the sample slightly differently and that if you are prone to yeast infections that when the pap
smear area is not cleaned properly before the sample being taken this can sometimes give you a false positive. I tried to reach the original doctor, because the more I thought about it... They would have called if indeed I tested positive for any STD, not sent a letter 2 months after my appointment saying that my Pap
smear sample had been contaminated and I needed to come in for a new one. I don't know it just seems really odd to me. The Dr yesterday seemed uncomfortable, and almost confused, when I asked what the normal policy is (mind you these are US military doctors) about contacting patients, she said with an abnormal pap
smear they call when they get the results, not send letters. So she was as confused about that bit as I was. Like I said the more I thought about it, the more I feel like someone on their end screwed up. My husband is honestly one of the good ones, and I trust him completely, so when she sat there saying we had some talking to do, I was getting angry and stopped thinking straight. I should have had her call over to the original doctor immediately to find out what was really going on, well in hindsight I should have gone to see the original doctor and not the new one, I just wanted to save myself a 30 minute drive. Any thoughts? Any advice? Any experiences I can learn from? Oh one last thing, before the IUC was inserted I did test positive for bacterial vaginitis (spelling?), took the cream and it was cleared up in a few days.
Most likely a false positive. Retest is you have not medicated and have husband test. If all are negative then you can rest assued that you got a false positive.
