stream, some abdominal discomfort. Initially, I was seen at a local clinic and treated with Bactrim. The symptoms improved somewhat over the course of the seven day treatment, but never fully remitted and worsened after treatment was over. I then saw my PCP, who indicated that Bactrim was inappropriate for urethritis
in men; he prescribed me Doxycyclin. I took Doxy for seven days and the symptoms remitted entirely; however, they resumed almost immediately following my cessation of the drug...which was 2 days ago.
Throughout this time period, I have been tested for STDs on multiple occassions. All tests came back negative; however, I took my last test while on the Bactrim. My PCP diagnosed me with Nongonococcal urethritis
(NGU), and suspected that I had Chlamdyia (he hypothesized that the Bactrim may have prevented Chlaymdia detection even if it was ineffective therapeutically). I have only had protected intercoursal sex
When I asked my PCP for a urologist referral, he said it was highly doubtful that I needed to see one. He gave me another prescription of Doxy just in case my symptoms did not go away, but he was very confident that I would be over all of this after one treatment cycle. He also stated that I have nothing to be imminently worried about given my symptom pattern. I plan to refill the prescription tomorrow since my symptoms resurfaced.
I am very worried at this point. Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Did your symptom ever go away? I'm having the same problem right now. I tried an antibotic (antibiotic) last week and now my symptoms are back. I'm hoping a different prescription is the solution.
