Tested positive for Chlamydia - Worried and need help

I got my test results today and the Chlamydia IgG is positive (reading 1.20). I freaked out. I was prescribed with Doxycycline. I got a second opinion from another doctor, but I was told that the Chlamydia IgG could be due to previous infection and since the urine test shows negative for all the items such as whiteblood cells, protein, bacteria etc. (about 20 items), the likelihood is that I don't have an infection and hence need not worry about it. I had Non non gonococcal urethritis several years ago but was cured, the antibodies could very likely come from that infection. Currently there is no symptoms at all.

Question :

1.  Can the Chlamydia IgG positive results be due to the NGU infection years ago?

2.  Am I likely carrying the bacteria and hence contagious ?

3.  Should I take the Doxycycline?

If you were misdiagnosed years ago - and you might have been, as chlamydia wasn't really known until the late 80s - then yes, this could be from that.

The only way to know is to have taken a specific urine chlamydia test and find out.  Its a damn shame your doctor didn't do that - he should have.

If you haven't take the doxy, you can go get a urine test to find out if you have it currently or not.

Blood tests are NOT appropriate ways to diagnose a current chlamydia infection, and should only be used in fertility testing to rule a past infection out as a cause for infertility.

The NGU infection was diagnosed and cured about 8 years ago.   I wasn't sure what type of NGU that was.   The questions I have are : (1) is Chlamydia considered NGU?  (2) Will the Chlamydia IgG test continue to be positive 8 years after the infection was cured?

If the proper testing wasn't done for chlamydia, then yes, NGU might be caused by chlamydia.

Yes, the IgG might remain positive for life.
