This is regarding my boyfriend

by BrigetteMarie, Oct 30, 2008 01:25PM
My boyfriends has been having some problems for the past week. The tip of his penis is red and he says it hurts really really bad when he pees (burning/stinging sensations). He has also been very achy in his joints, and the area above his penis where the glands are, are also swollen and irritated. Now, he went to get a urinalysis on Monday and everything came back normal, they took blood, and did a culture and said they didnt find any bacteria. Now today he went to a Urologist and said that the doctor told him his partner (me) must be stepping out on him because he thinks he has Chlamydia. I have never cheated on him, and he has been my only partner for 3+ years now. We haven't had sex for over 3 weeks and this just started about a week ago... Now my question is, wouldnt Chlamydia have shown up on the Uninalysis? The Urologist made him pee in a cup again to check for Chlamydia, but since he had a urinalysis on Monady wouldn't it have shown up then? This is really making me mad that the Dr would even say something like that, and I have read online about people with the same symptoms as his and it is not an STD. I know this is long, but anyone that can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

It could be a ton of different things, and my first thought wouldn't be Chlamydia, so I don't know what your doctor is basing his opinion on. The only thing that possibly points to it is the burning when peeing, but if it isn't accompanied by discharge I doubt it's Chlamydia, especially if the doctor did a culture and nothing came back. Generally it would've shown up.. do you know for sure that he tested for chlamydia? Maybe give your doctor a call to se if your boyfriend was tested for chlamydia in the uralysis or culture.

Other than that, the only thing you can do is wait for the results and go from there.

Well that is the thing...I did not go with him on Monday when he got a urinalysis so I don't know exactly what they checked for. I know he got the results back, but when I ask him what they tested for he said he doesnt know, but everything was clean. Now when he went to the doctor today, he said the doctor didn't even look at his penis, he just made him pee and checked his urine and said there is an infection in there (duh), and his first conclusion was chlamydia... My boyfriend was given a shot in his butt and the Dr. said that should clear it up by today and if not then he also gave him a perscription if it is not cleared by tomorrow. The Dr. also said he wants my boyfriend to get another urinalysis... I am going to the same Dr. tomorrow to get checked, but I have no symptoms (and yes, I know it can be dormant), and he is the only partner I have had in the last 3 years as said before. Oh yea, and he said he does have some discharge. But he is also swollen and red in the area above his penis.

It really depends on if they just did a urine dipstick test, or if they did a culture, or a specific chlamydia test.

What kind of shot did he get?  A shot isn't typical treatment for chlamydia, but is for gonorrhea.  Do you know what the prescription he got is?

I don't know what is it the shot is, but they said it was supposed to help right away and it didn't. Anyway, now he is taking Levaquin, which he has been on for 2 days and he says he is still hurting. I really think the doctor misdiagnosed him, because I know he is only 24 but all of his symptoms are the symptoms of Prostatitis. I was told not to get checked for atleast a few weeks because I just got over being sick and was given Azythromacin (sp?) which is what would be given to me as a treatment for Chlamydia so if I got tested now, it is possible it would ne a false positive. All the doctor did was do a dip test and then told him to go get a cutlure for Chlamydia.

OK I totally don't get why a doctor would do a urine test for something, and then tell someone to go get a culture for chlamydia at another time.  Makes no sense, and doctors do it all the time.

What is the dose of Levaquin he's on?  Nothing I've read says why, but it does seem we are seeing more and more prostatitis in younger men these days, so its possible.
