Urethritis

I don't know if I'm being stupid thinking about this or not. But, about 2 1/2 years ago I had a protected sexual encounter with a sex worker and then received an unprotected hand job.  I had STD tests done 2 weeks after this encounter and all were negative (however, I was on Trimophrine for a UTI up to 5 days before the test). Other than this I have been in a monogomous relationship with my wife for 17 years. Now, I put this episode behind me a long time ago until I started to get penile discharge last Friday. This discharge was like a cloudy pale yellow colour and I have also had a deep itching feeling along the length of my penis all the way through to, what feels like, my rectum. The discharge and itching has reduced a bit over the last day or 2. I went to the docs yesterday and he made out it was 'no big deal', 'really common' and put me on 10 days of Cipro. Now to get to my point. Does anyone know if the test I had many years ago could be a false negative because of the antibiotics? And given that could I only start getting systems now, 2 1/2 years latter?

Just to add to my previous post. My wife has never mentioned having any genital problems during this time, besides the occasional bout of thrush.

You would have had symptoms long ago if this was related.  My guess is that this is prostatitis or something similar and your doctor should have done some tests.

If it lingers, follow up and get a prostate exam done.

Thanks for your reply. Although, the sex was protected and I know that there was little chance of her having chlamydia anyway. But, I did worry at the time that the hand job may have transferred her vaginal secretions, that would have been at the base, to the top of my penis.
Anyway, regarding my doctors visit. I must have been in the surgery for all of a minute.  He had a quick look, asked me about the discharge and itching, felt my lymph glands and that wrote out a prescription.  No testing at all. Prostatitis did cross my mind so I prepared myself mentally beforehand expecting to get it prodded. One other point also is that I just get a little discomfort with urination. But, real burning on ejaculation. The burning on ejaculation started a couple of days before the discharge kicked in.

It sounds like prostatitis to me, but the only way to know is to get an exam.  Handjobs don't transmit stds.

I just wanted to post a follow up. My urethritis symptoms went away following the antibiotics but, returned about a month later (and went away on it's own and return again...). I did 2 urine tests (the clinic lost the first one) and eventually 7 weeks after my first urine tests I found I was clear of bacterial STD's. So I need to make an appointment to talk about my prostate with my doctor.
