antibiotic resistant chlamydia

I went to the doctor for my annual pap with no noticable chlamydia smyptoms. My doctor called me days later with a positive chlamydia result. After discussing with my partner of five years he admitted to infidelity. So we both were prescribed 1000mg of azithromycin. About five days after my one time dose I started having severe abdominal pain, and vaginal itiching. I called my doctor and he said neither were related to my chlamydia. After two days my symptoms subsided and I thought everything was fine.
After about three weeks I started having vaginal burning and itching. It was very severe. It is important to let you know I had NO SEXUAL activity between my treatment and sudden onset of symptoms. So I went to the doctor (a differnent doctor since my didnt listen when I had the abdominal pain and itching). I was retested and tested for ALL STDS. EVERYTHING came back negative excetp CHLAMYDIA. I dont understand how after a month I suddenly had symptoms. And it had either left or suddnely reappeared with no sexual activity. So now I have been prescribed Doxycycline 100mg twice daily for 14 days. I am on day seven (which would be the standard dose). I have not felt any symptom relief if anything they are WORSE.
Should I assume the doxy isnt working or give it more time?
Do I have a strand of chlamydia resistant to both azithro and doxy?
I have no insurance and have already been to two doctors racking up bills with both them and the diagnostic labs they get their results from. Where do I go from here?

Give more time, sometimes things seem to get worse before they get better. Resistant chlamydia is rare, have your bf test again and see what his results are.

Finish your medication and at the end see how you feel. You would have to wait 3 weeks for a retest to see if fully cleared. If your in US then local health dept can do testing for free.

Thank you got responding. My boyfriend also doesn't have insurance. My doctor prescribed him the doxy as well. It seems so weird because his also was asymtematic until after he started taking medication.

That is common, the body starts to react to the medication and begins to flush the infection out of the body.
