azithromycin & Alcohol

If taking azithromycin for NGU, can the medication be affected by heavy drinking. I was diagnosed with NGU on 7/15/09 and given 1000mg of azithromycin. On Friday, I took a trip for a friends birthday for the weekend which included heavy drinking on Friday and Saturday and now I am still feeling a burning sensation. Could the alcohol have affected how the medication works?
