azithromycin risk?

Recently tested positive for chlamydia & was given azithromycin. After leaving my health care provider I looked over the papers I was given with the medication and read that I should NOT take medication if I have pain during intercourse, I actually do have pain during intercourse and I'm curious what would happen if I take the medication either way. I thought pain during intercourse was just a symptom from the sti.
