chlamydia and infertility

It is my understanding chlamydia can cause infertility.

From what I read the odds are low?

It also seems from other readings that chlamydia must first cause PID and the PID will cause infertility...

Is this accurate? If so, how would you detect PID? Not just the lower abdominal cramps etc....more like a test. Will an ultrasound show inflamation (inflammation) etc?

Also; How long would you have to be infected with chlamydia to be infertile?

This is a lousy answer, I know, but its really different from woman to woman.  Some women will get PID within a few months of infection, others not for a year.  

PID will cause pain, cramping, etc.  Did she get a pelvic exam with her test?  If she had PID, the pelvic exam would have HURT.

Infertility is the same - it varies from woman to woman.
