scared

hello,
i just came back from having my yearly pap smear done, and got pretty shook up from my doctor talking about how the discharge she was seeing could be chlamydia. she did the swab test for it and i was wondering a couple things.

1. how long should it be for results?

2. i was a virgin before this relationship im in now. we've been together for 2 years and prior to us, though he had a sexual history, he had just gotten tested before we dated and he was clean of anything. we had unprotected sex, which we shouldnt have done and now im hating myself. could he have been a carrier and it wasnt shown on the tests?

im going to be scared till i get results, im ready for answers

thank you

Hi there -

I hate it when doctor's say stuff like this and then don't explain anything.

Your results depend entirely on the lab, and how they report it back to the doctor.  It will be faster if its email, slower if its mail.  You can always call tomorrow and ask.

If he was negative before you dated, and hasn't been with anyone else, then this isn't chlamydia.  There are other things this could be - bacterial vaginosis, yeast, etc - it doesn't have to be an std.

If he had it before you all got together, it would have shown up on the results from his prior testing.

thank you for answering...i just keep overthinking and wondering if he is just a carrier if the test for him still works and would even come out positive...

also i thank you greatly for doing such a great job on here and settling so many minds!

There is no such thing as a carrier for chlamydia - or a carrier for anything, really.  If someone has an infection and is infectious, it means they have it.

There is no way it wouldn't show on a test, unless he had a false negative.  Have you talked to him about this?  He should be re-tested.  If you come back positive, he is going to need to test and treat, so he can just get a head start, so to speak, by testing now.
