taking amoxicillin for dental work - false positive for chlamydia

I recently went to my doctor for a check up and was give STD exam. At the time I was taking amoxicillin for a root canal on my teeth. I came back positive for chlamydia. I don't understand cause I've been with no one since my last test. My girlfriend (we've not been sexual) is now flipping out because she thinks I've cheated on her. I've never been positive for anything. Her doctor is telling her that I cheated on her.

I was then reading (after trying to find any reason of how this could have happened since we've never been intimate and again I've never been with anyone since my last annual test) that amoxicillin was sometimes used to cure chlamydia and you must wait so long before retesting because it could come back as a false positive. I'm so confused. This is going to tear apart what would have been a great relationship.

I'm confused as to why you had an std test if you had no partners since your last one.  How long after you had sex last did you test originally?  Perhaps you had a false negative then?  How long ago was that?

I think you are misinterpreting the false positive and antibiotics.  If you were taking amox for chlamydia (not the best medication for that, by the way), you could have a false positive due to dead chlamydia DNA remaining in your body.  If you don't have chlamydia, you wouldn't get a false positive from antibiotics.

However, if you can find out what the name of the test, I can help better with false positive rates, etc.
