what are the odds?

by ddub1973, Dec 09, 2008 11:44AM
I had a one-time encounter with a woman engaging mostly in oral sex (her on me) then followed by intercourse for probably less than a minute.  I know the woman has other partners... and typically uses condoms, but, I'm terrified I may have contracted chlamydia due to the high rate of infection in the U.S..  It's been a couple of months and I've had no symptoms, however, I recently started to panic about it as my GF told me about a stomach pain and burning sensation when she urinated.  Her symptoms were for only one day.  Nonetheless, I went to a lab to be tested yesterday and now I'm paniced.  If I'm positive, it will destroy our lives together...  What can you tell me about the odds of contracting Chlamydia from the encounter I described??  My test don't come back for 3-5 days and I'm not sleeping at all...

The odds are low - oral doesn't transmit chlamydia, and you had very brief intercourse.

Thanks for your reply.  I feel a little better... I'm assuming you're saying the odds are low even if she was infected, right?

Just got my test results... negative.  I'm so relieved!  My only concern would be if I had a false negative.  I'm sure that's extremely rare, but, should I ask my doctor for some azthromycin just in case?  Do you think he would prescribe it even though my test was negative?  I want to be sure that I don't have chlamydia... or at least as close to 100% as possible.

bty... thanks so much for your replies the last couple of days.  They really helped to reduce my anxiety.

No, you don't need to treat.  You had a brief exposure, at best, and you tested negative.
