zithromax - 500mg X 2 treatment time

I started having that "I need to constantly urinate" and not urinating properly about a week ago and had a fever for a day or so. I finally got to see my GP the other day. He gave me the single dose of Zithromax 2 X 500mg tabs, which I took last night as my GP suspected Chlamydia.
He did culture tests for UTI, Gonnorhea and also one to confirm Chlamydia. But, as of today it seemed that my urination and the burning sensation had slightly increased.
How long does the Zithromax take to work and how long till the symptoms subside?
Do the two pills just work away at it for week?
Is it normal to have a slight peak of symptoms when taking the Zithromax?

If you aren't seeing a marked improvement in a week or so, or if the symptoms continue to worsen, I would certainly go back to the doc.
If your tests results are negative for chlamydia, then make sure to follow up with your doc to find out what he/she thinks it is.
