Simvastatin and Pregnancy

Hi,
I am currently trying to get pregnant and was on simvastatin. I was told to stop taking it by my old doctor. I am currently seeing a new doctor and they want me to start on simvastatin again. Is it safe to take if I might be pregnant?? Thanks!

Simvastatin is a pregnancy category X which carries a risk to the unborn fetus. Ask your doctor to explain his decision, there may be some new research I am not aware of.
