my level cholesterol is too high

I am a 40 year old man and I know my cholestrol level is too high.
I would like to know what level is normal at my age and when it is nessecary to think about some medicine.
Is there somebody who can help me with this question?

Much depends on your risk factors. If you have none other than being a male, your total needs to be under 200 , LDL under 130 and HDL over 40. If you have two or more risk factors then your LDL needs to be under 100 and if you already have heart disease it should be under 70. Normally your doctor may suggest a med once your LDL is over 130.
