CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME COMMUNITY
could this be CFS?

could this be CFS?

I am a 48 year old female who has had shortness of breath on exertion for about 4 years. Originally, I was investigated for pulmonary hypertension because of an elevated pulmonary pressure of 48 on an echocardiogram. I had two right heart catheterizations but both were normal. My pulmonary function tests have declined a little but are still within normal limits. No asthma, heart disease or allergies. All bloodwork is normal. All other tests done have been normal. I literally cannot exercise anymore because the more I do, the more short of breath I get and I gradually start to feel sick, like I am getting a chest cold. My chest feels congested or like I have inhaled smoke. This is how I always feel by the end of a work week. I also have a dry cough. I have had periodic episodes of dizziness. I have lost weight with no relief.
No other diagnosis seems to fit but I cannot say I am exceptionally tired. I do not have fevers. My knees and sometimes my fingers hurt but I have no other sore joints or muscles. I sleep pretty good and mornings are when I feel the best. Rest does help. Could this just be a milder form of CFS? After seeing many specialists, one mentioned it and asked me if I had unrefreshed sleep. When I said "no" he said it wasn't CFS. I still wonder.

Hello,
If your pulmonary function tests have decreased a bit then possibility of bronchitis and asthama should be ruled out. Asthma is an important cause of chest tightness, difficulty in breathing and light headedness, but it is not the only factor for such symptoms. Others may include underlying lung(pneumonia, bronchitis etc) and cardiac pathology(angina, Myocardial infarction). It may also be due to gastritis and GERD.

Diagnosis can be confirmed by lung function tests, X-Ray chest for lung pathology,ECG and echocardiography.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
