Cold weather/humidity issues?

Two yrs. ago I was diagnosed with COPD/emphysema while I lived in ME.  We moved to TN, where the dr. (?) said it was chronic bronchitus. While in TN I had difficulties breathing. Is humidity a factor in emphysema and/or chronic bronchitus?  Now we are back in ME. It physically hurts to breath outside in cold weather, I have had a stupid cold for over 3 wks.  We also have a wood stove.  Are these also factors?  I have looked all over the internet (no doubt not in the right places/no comp. skills), to find answers.  I can not tell you how relieved I am to find this web site.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Chronic bronchitis is commonly, a component of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), both caused by cigarette smoking.  Both humidity and cold weather can aggravate COPD.  Wood stoves, especially if not well ventilated, can lead to COPD, certainly be responsible for its worsening and prolong the course of the common cold.  Do not depend upon visual examination of the stove to determine if products of combustion are entering the room.  When you are outside, try wearing a cold-weather mask, which are available at most medical supply stores.
