How much of my life will be shortened with copd

I was diagnosed with trace emphysema in 1996 from smoking I continued to smoke it is 12 years later,
now I have cronic (chronic) bronkitus and copd I am 54

The present severity of your chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) would need to be known to render any estimate of how many years your life might be shortened.  The concept of lung age, a determination made on the basis of pulmonary function tests (PFTs), may be relevant.  The "lung age" is the age of the average person who has an FEV1 equal to that of the individual.

Combining your lung age with the average life expectancy in your family would give you an approximation of the number of years your life might be shortened, based on your current age and your current pulmonary function.

You should collaborate with your doctor on smoking cessation and make every effort to quit now.  Quiting can add years to your life and it is never too late to quit, and derive benefit from the quiting, especially at the relative young age of 54.

It depends on your  current lung function, whether or not you need  oxygen. Nobody can tell. From what I read and people I've talked to who have COPD. Some have had it for 30 years. What is your fev1? Are you on O2. Are you really overweight that affects your Fee1 I have COPD technically. My doc says I could live to 90, On various spirometrys my fev1 has been as low as 40% and as high as 78%. I varies it is effort driven test and I got a large asthma component, but if you have example a fev1 of 50% I would say a 100 years old if nothing else gets you first, stroke, heart attack, lung cancer ,etc. Life is a **** shoot.
