Parenchyma refers to the substance of the lung itself.  The sponge-like tissue in which oxygen enters the blood.  It is to be distinguished from the bronchial tubes.  This is, by accepted standards, a very small nodule.  It is too small for the fine features of it to show-up and thus too small for the X-ray doctor to hazard any educated “guess” on what might be the cause of it.  You should be relieved to know that the great majority of nodules this size are benign, especially in those who are non-smokers and under the age of 35.

The usual recommendation for nodules this size is that they regularly be checked by CT to be sure that there is no change in size over time.  This can be done with a CT scan limited only to the area of the lung in which the nodule is seen and thus reduces your dose of radiation exposure.

Good luck
