collasped lungs ?

hello , i was wondering if you were born 3months early and u had mild collasped lung or lungs  and had HMD/RDS that you will have problems in adult hood ? im just wondering if my copd is coming to a head now  because of my birth findings ?.........2young

Prematurity of this degree, combined with hyaline membrane disease (HMD) and respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) often results in small lungs that are predisposed to the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).  You could well have the residual effects of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) having an additive effect on your COPD.  Unfortunately, there is nothing to be done to correct the effects of your diseases in early infancy.  You can only strive hard to avoid cigarette smoke, occupational hazards, such as dust, gases etc., try to breathe the cleanest air possible at all times and make sure that you are getting optimum therapy for your COPD.
