oxygen saturation

oxygen saturation

I recently was in a car accident and had a bad asthma attack from the smoke and powder that came from the air bags when they deployed.  I was treated at the scene with oxygen as my oxygen saturation had declined to 78% (without supplement oxygen for approx 20 mins.) and my BP was 154/106.  I have emphysema and require O2 at night and during stressful situations.  My question is what did this episode do to my heart and lungs?

Hopefully, you sustained only some acute injury, and no permanent damage to your lungs.  It is very doubtful that there would have been any damage to your heart.  Spirometry and measurement of your oxygen levels will be good indicators of any persistent changes in your lungs.  In the meantime, try hard to breathe only the cleanest air possible.
