Blood in Mucus after surgery with breathing tube inserted

I recently had surgery on my foot and was put to sleep.  They had to insert a breathing tube during the procedure.  The next day I coughed up a large chunk of dark red blood and didn't seemed too alarmed about it b/c they had told me that my throat may be sore and i just assumed that it was from having the tube ran down my throat.  Day 3 now and I am still finding small amounts of blood in my mucus when I cough it up and I do feel "a little" short of breath but not much.  I am a past smoker.  Is this a cause for concern or is it normal?

Sounds like they injured you when they inserted the tube.
