Hi!

When patients have COPD, the lung is unable to process oxygen well. So the blood that comes back to the heart from lungs is not well oxygenated. This blood with poor oxygen is then circulated to the body. With time, this is not enough to need the oxygen demand of different tissues and puts pressure on the heart. Sometime the patients of COPD develop pulmonary hypertension. The right side of heart needs excess force to push blood into lungs. This causes right side heart failure. Together there is congestive heart failure (CHF). Once a patient develops CHF, he/she needs extra care, proper drugs, and the prognosis worsens. Hope this helps! Take care!
