COPD

by dreameweaverr, Oct 08, 2007 05:07PM
I was recently diagnosed with COPD. I was wondering what kinds of treatments are available for me. I have only 6% of lung usage left. Is surgery,or herbs a possibility? Any ideas? Whatever info you have I would greatly appreciate. THANKYOU NUCH

Please read our chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) information at http://www.nationaljewish.org/disease-info/diseases/copd/index.aspx to learn more about the medicines and the benefit of pulmonary rehabilitation.  If you truly have only 6% of lung functioning, then the answer is yes lung transplantation would be a consideration.

I really don't understand your post and believe you may have misunderstood your physician, as 6% is a very low number for an initial diagnosis.  I'd urge you to speak further with him or her about what you were told.  Herbs have not been shown to have any significant effect on COPD.  There are some surgical options for carefully selected patients referred by their physician, but first their lung function has to be optimized by measures including pulmonary rehabilitation, which you can also ask your doctor about.
