Does heavy wheezing mean I have COPD?

I'm 29 in two weeks. Started smoking at 22 (seven years). I smoke a pack a day.
Every morning I wake up with loud stubborn wheezing and I cough a lot. It's worrying me 'cause regular wheezing only started a few months ago. Before, I never wheezed.
I'm quitting tomorrow. Is there any chance the wheezing and dry cough will go away on its own once I'm no longer smoking?

I don't think any idiot here will be able to answer this, so never mind.

I forgot to add that at first the wheezing was pretty light and quickly cleared, but now it feels deeper. I'm aware that I have to quit smoking now for this to not develop further.
