I have looked all over the internet to find out what danger the powder itself might represent. And found not a whisper. So what happens to it? Does it forever lie in your lungs? Is it an irritant? My thanks for any information.

No, the dry powder in your inhalers does not settle in the lungs. It is released in micro-quantities. Most molecules bind with beta adrenergic receptors to cause vasodilatation and are used up in this process. The ones that are not used up immediately keep binding as soon as a site is available and that is how you get the sustained broncho-dilatory effect after each puff. Once most molecules are used up, you need the second puff dose. Also, any remaining molecules will be absorbed in mucus and expectorated out with cough or taken up by the body’s immune cleaning system. Hope this helps. Take care!
