Stages - FEV1
COPD is divided into four stages based on FEV1 as a percentage of predicted. What I don't know is whether the stage determination is made with or without medication. I should think that medication is implied, but does anyone know for sure? Thank you for your replies.
I guess I wasn't clear. Is the FEV1 taken with or without the patient using his medication? In my case there would be a very big difference in the result.

COPD is treated based on it's stage and not the other way around. FEV1 and symptoms determine stage. The most common staging system is the GOLD system.
