Stentotrophamonas in non-immunocompromised 45yo male

I'm reasonably healthy, and work as an RN in an ICU.  I developed a sore throat that progressed to an upper respiratory infection.  A throat culture took 2 weeks to colonize stentotrophomonas maltophilia.  My family MD had no experience with it, but it showed sensitivity to Bactrim, which I started today.
My question is, how did I succumb to a relatively non-virulent organism that supposedly requires an invasive route to bypass a host's normal immunity defenses?
I have had no IV's, foleys, ect.   I am around ventilated patients with multiple invasive therapies and monitoring, so sources for colonization are abundant.  I'm just wondering why I had the misfortune to be host to this bug?  I have missed two weeks of work, persistantly coughing with a sore throat and generalized weakness.  Can colonies be transfered by airborne or droplet route?  This bug certainly has my respect now.
