What cpould be wrong with me.?

by philip314, Oct 30, 2009 03:21PM
Since January I have been having chest tightness, shortness of breath and a cough. The cough is daily and the other symptoms tend to come with exersise. I am 16 and was diagnosed with asthma when I was 5, but my doctor told me I don't have it any more a few years ago. I have seen a few doctors and have had a chest x-ray, echocardiogram and stress test. All of them were normal but during the stress test I got really short of breath. The doctors seem to think iam having panic attacks but I disagree.  I don't know if this helps but I have a peak flow meter and I can ussually get to about 300. When I have my Chest tightness and shortness of breath it was 120. Does anyone know what ths could be. Also asthma medications have never improved my symptoms.

Neither one of your peak flow readings are normal for a young man. It surely sounds as though you have asthma. Doesn't Benadryl work? It should.

No, I was even put on prednisone and that only mildly improved my symptoms. I was in the ER a few days ago and thankfully the Doctor there reffered me to a respirologist.

Have you been given any other tests to diagnose asthma other then the peak flow?
