can ards cause you to get a staph infection in your lungs and what is the typical amount of time that it takes to get better from the ards and the staph infection which has accoured as a result of the ards

Adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a condition that can cause extensive lung damage, can predispose to a variety of infections.  It often works the other way around with infection, especially bacteremia, which is a blood born infection, causing ARDS.  Staph pneumonia, while not rare, is not common.  The prognosis for a staph infection depends on the severity and often the cause of the ARDS and the type of Staph, for example methicillin resistant staph aureus (MRSA).  Recovery would ordinarily take weeks and often longer.
