copd & insurance

Our company is discontinuing its group coverage medical plan & I will therefore at the age of 61 be forced to look for private insurance.
I'm certain I have emphysema (I've never been treated or diagnosed with it, but I have many of the symptoms -- I just quit smoking 13 weeks ago).  I'm afraid to go for an examination until I hear from the provider I've applied to because I don't want them refusing me coverage because of a preexisting condition.  Is copd/emphysema a likely condition for which most providers would deny medical coverage, and am I doing harm to myself by waiting to seek treatment?????    Where can I turn for coverage if this type of preexisting condition precludes me from coverage with most providers??????????

I used to sell insurance... not individual health insurance, however. I suspect you will get the best answer to your question from an experienced health insurance professional. Look for someone with a number of years of experience selling individual health insurance who will help you approach the right company with the right doctor's records to support your case. Ask around to get recommendations and meet with the insurance representative in person. Good luck.
I'm guessing being able to honestly deny never having been diagnosed with COPD puts you in a a better position when applying, so I think you are taking the right approach
