When your copd is in the fourth stage it is classified as severe. You will be greatly out of breath after only a little exercise or exertion. The machine the doctors use to measure your lung capacity is spirometry. In the fourth stage it will be greatly diminished. Your doctor may suggest oxygen use to help you breath. You may be hospitalized more for complications such as heart failure, and are more sespectable to pneumonias. As with any disease it is best to learn as much as you can about the disease to best fight it. The support you will find here will help too. Good luck to you, you are not alone.
