copd and breast cancer?
My mother is 80 and has had copd/emphysema for 3 years+ ... today we found out she has a 1.5 cm mass in her breast. The doctor referred to this as "breast cancer".  Is there a connection between the 2 diseases? What is her prognosis for managing both diseases?

Hi!
No, there is no link between COPD/emphysema and breast cancer. The prognosis of breast cancer depends on the stage of the cancer. If it is localized to breast itself with no involvement of the nodes, then prognosis is excellent. If there is localized spread to same side lymph nodes, then too the prognosis is good. In later stages, the prognosis is not good. Also a lot depends on the extent to which she can take the side effects of the chemo.
Take care!
