hello im a 31 y/o female who was diag with copd and asthma , they did a spirometry test on me , but came to find out that they messed up my height . im 62 inchs tall and they put me as 52 inch will that make any differance?  i called the nurse back and she said no it wouldnt make a differnace. but i dunno , she aint a doctor !!! anyways here are my test results.....

fvc 3.19 , 148 ,2.14
fev1 1.20 , 60, 1.97
fev1% 38, 41, 93
fef25-75 1.05 , 40,2.60
pef 1.22 , 24 , 4.96

im not truly understanding them ! or dunno what my  lung function/capasity  is ?

A 10" difference in height would make a huge difference.  The taller you are, the larger your lungs, men, women, everybody.  Thus, using the standards for a 52" woman, your age, would make your performance look good.  You need to explain this to the nurse.  They should have tables of normal predicted values, either written or electronic.  The doctor should also be made aware that his nurse does not understand pulmonary function tests (PFTs), predicted values and results.

I can't tell what is what in these numbers.  Please re-submit the results to us, in the form in which they appear on the print-out, including the labeling of each column of numbers.

Hi 2Young,
I'm not the best one to answer this the best one I can think would be Larry as he knows much more. But the way I understand it the numbers that would change would be the predicted as I believe  they are based on age and height. Sorry I can't help more.

FVC  -   (TRIAL4)- 3.19  / (%PRED) -148  (PRED) 2.14  - (LLN) 1.65
FEV1  - (TRIAL4)- 1.20  (%PRED) 60   (PRED)1.97  (LLN) 1.39
FEV1%  (TRIAL4) 38  (%PRED) 41  (PRED) 93 (LLN) 80
FEF25-75  (TRIAL) 1.05 (%PRED) 40 (PRED) 2.60
PEF  (TRIAL) 1.22  (%PRED) 24 (PRED) 4.96

he did this test while i was on spiriva , it says that my fev1 and fev1% is below LLN what ever that means , and its also says , predmed moderate obstruction , im 31 y/o , 5f2  (62inches) , and 168lbs . there is trial2 and trial3 listed on here too if u want those numbers ? im wondering if my own doc doesnt understand too  maybe i should ask him to send me to a pulm doc .

Wow, I didn't realize they made you pay for it. Did you try posting on the Respiratory Forum...I posted at that one, and I didn't have to pay. And the  questions on that one are also answered by physician from the National Jewish Medical & Research center.
