lung transplant, emphysema

by PAMI1019, Mar 15, 2008 05:55PM
My husband is 55 years old and has advanced emphysema. He is now in the hospital, yet again, and is intubated for the fifth time. I would like to know how I can put him on the lung transplant list. He also has dilatory cardiomyopathy with CHF.

I just feel that he is too yung to leave this world as of yet, please, is there someone out there that could help us?

Please contact the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) at http://www.unos.org or (888) 894-6361 to locate the lung transplant center closest to you.

I would also advise you to consult with your husband’s doctors to be sure that he is receiving optimum therapy for the dilatory cardiomyopathy.  If he is not being seen by a cardiologist, he should request consultation.

And, of course, if your husband still smokes, he must quit to preserve his remaining lung and to qualify for transplant consideration.

Speak to his Pulmonologist about it. He may then be sent for an very extensive evaluation. I just finished mine. I'ts about 5 days worth of tests.
