Hi I just noticed your new note, I know what you mean about the Spiriva not seeming to work, alot of other people get doubtful about its effectiveness. They say that you can't feel it helping but it is supposed to. I myself have discontinued mine . Maybe keeping a detailed record of its use and noting any improvement at all would help. I use my rescue inhaler the most of all the help. Your husband isn't smoking is he? That is by far the worst antagonist for copd. Please also make some time for yourself, it's vitally imortant for your husbands care that you don't get caretakers burnout. Please stay consistent with your requests for help from social services. Hang in there, you are trying and that means everything!

Well thank u he does the breathing exerciises I sit up with him patting his back he's got nebs ventolin spivira but they just don't seem to help him at all.  It was very nice of u to give me some advice to me I'm just feeling a bit down with it all. Social services suppose to have helped but that was a year ago.

Hi, elavating his head (adding a pillow) might help. Steam will help him cough some of that mucus up. Also there are certain ways of breathing that I have found help me sometimes. Have him sit down take a deep breath and blow it out but at the end have him keep blowing as long as possible. You could say "Hold it hold it" to help. When he takes the next breath he will most likely start coughing but it will be a productive cough making it possible to get more out. Of course there is nothing homeaid thats going to work as well as seeing a doctor. He needs a specialist, a pulmonary doctor. A doctor, even a regular doc can prescribe meds that will really help, like albuteron, which he will inhale. There are other like Spiriva that could be of help too. If you don't have insurance there are county doctors (find them in the yellow pages) that can help for nothing or practically nothing. With severe copd, he is eligible for disability every month. Get busy and get the necessary paperwork and get it in. Good luck.
