why back and neck pain with loss of breath

I have recently been told, during a hospitalization, that I have emphysema and have been referred to a pulmonologist, but that appointment is not until the middle of November. I do not understand why I have intense pressure between my shoulder blades and tightening of the areas on either side of my neck when I become short of breath.  Is this a separate issue or is this "normal" for those with COPD?  I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the idea of having emphysema as I have never smoked and am not even sure if the doctor in the hospital was correct.  Right now, I'm more questions than info.

If I were you, I would post this question to the doctor on the copd doctor monitored forum here. This one is for support by fellow sick peoples, and you certainly do have that! I would also think about going to the ER. This sounds serious. Not like Emphysema.
