I've had a transplant and a TIPS procedure but still had to do 24 weeks. 12 weeks is for those who are basic Hep C with most likely no previous treatment. 24 weeks for those advanced and especially with Cirrhosis...

Hi we received the Harvoni today and the pain med is ok,, He has to take his lansoprazole with the Harvoni,, and take his calcium 4 hours before or after so everything else is ok,, but no antacids
Hi Linda. Just an afterthought, but be sure to mention if your husband is on any pain therapy. It is my understanding that some of these are contraindicated for treatment with Harvoni.
Best to you

Hi again thank you for the information,, I'm going to call the liver doctor tomorrow. We live in Ontario Canada, we had went to the doctor last Thursday. She said she would put in a request to the drug company to see if we could get it free, My husbands meld is only 17 but because he is so sick, he has had everything bad that happens with this awful disease , Then on Friday she called and told us he was excepted, and would start next week, We were shocked because we never thought it would happen,, But now I am concerned about the 12 weeks, Because at this point he is esld, and not doing to well. I will let you know what the doctor says thanks again for the information
On the prescribing information sheet from the link I sent there is a list of contraindicated medications. Also you could call my support path a service of Gilead the maker of Harvoni. They provide copayment support so your copay would only be 5 dollars per refill as well as having a pharmacist available for those types of questions.

Providers and patients can call 1-855-7-MYPATH (1-855-769-7284) for assistance.
From the prescribing info sheet:
----------------DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION---------------
Recommended dosage: One tablet (90 mg of ledipasvir and 400 mg of sofosbuvir) taken orally once daily with or without food
Recommended treatment duration:
***Treatment-naïve with or without cirrhosis: 12 weeks
***Treatment-experienced without cirrhosis: 12 weeks
***Treatment-experienced with cirrhosis: 24 weeks
Hi I was thinking the same thing,, why 12 weeks,, My husband has had everything bad that comes with End stage liver,, He starts next week and we go see the liver doctor in a month, Maybe they take test to know if he should go for 24 weeks, I will find out for sure, I also give him hydromorphone shots for pain, I will ask if that will interfere with the harvoni,, I will be back with answers thanks again
Dang it
People with cirrhosis is 24 weeks per the prescribing information sheet so make sure they give him 24. I have Genotype 1a with cirrhosis diagnosed in 2008. I am a 3 time null responder to interferon based treatments. Currently I have just finished day 19 of my 24 week treatment.
