Please help me understand :(

I was diagnosed with Hep C approx 11 years ago. Did the Interferon/Rib treatment. Unfortunately, I didn't only relapse with Hep C, but I went back to drinking. For another 6 years, i drank pretty heavy. A case of beer, few shots on the weekends.
In March of 2012, I suffered esophageal varices. Was very very lethargic for a whole weekend and my stools were horrendous, black and like thick tar.
I went to a local hospital, in which they claim it was from the varices bursting and I'm now on Pantaprozole, Nadolol, Januvia (While in there, they diagnosed me with diabetes).
My hepatologist, Dr. Rothstein in Philadelphia, wants to put me on 24 week treatments. I forget the name. Right now my platelet count is 63. I go for another endoscopy tomorrow, to check the varices.
I also was diagnosed with cirrhosis back in March of 12'. I have been sober since then. No alcohol intake what so ever. I feel though, as if they're not giving me enough information. Like: What stage my Hep C is in, or what stage the cirrhosis is in. Can someone please give me some advice, on what questions to ask my hepatologist. Everytime i go, they do a routine physical, and charge me $40 and give me no information. Thanks very much!!!

Hi I looked up portal gastropathy and came up with this.  I am not the sharpest knife in this drawer but from your symptoms, it sounds to me as if you have cirrhosis.  Maybe one of the other guys on here will comment.

Oh....I am so very happy for you.  This is great news!  I know a lot of people are having to fight to get this.  Or maybe it is just taking a while for approval.
Congratulations
Dee

Hello, your platelets are low but if you were to kill the HCV then they might raise up a bit. At my lab the normal is 145 to 400, every lab runs a little different.
Mine were at 67K when I discovered I had HCV, by stopping all Advil the platelets did slowly come up.  I didn't know I had it or the beginning of cirrhosis.  Do you take any aspirin or Advil?  They can thin the blood is the reason I am asking.
Congratulations for not drinking, that is very good.  I have heard that some doctors won't treat you if you are still drinking.
Your other numbers don't look too bad ASt and ALT are a little elevated but that is too be expected.  It is funny how someone can be sick but their blood work is not off by that much.
I know it can be frustrating to try to get information from some doctors.
If I were you I would ask what Geno type and what stage and grade the HCV is.  Your cirrhosis is not good if you have had bleeding varices.
You need to treat as soon as you can.
They used to do biopsies to see how damaged the liver was, it is possible with all of your symptoms you don't need a biopsy.  If I were you I would make sure that I have copies of all tests and blood work.
I hope you do well tomorrow, keep in touch
Dee
