I quit drinking two weeks ago after having a low platelet count of 48,000. I retest Tuesday. I improved my diet to include fruits and vegetables and am taking multivitamins. Any chance of a raised platelet level this fast? Thanks Bob
No. I low platelet count if you have cirrhosis is a sign of portal hypertension. If it cause by an enlarge spleen which is holding on the your platelets thus reducing the amount of platelets in your blood stream. This is a serious condition and needs to be managed.
You must see a hepatologist (liver specialist) who is commonly found at liver transplant centers to be evaluated to determine the amount of liver disease you have and if it is partly reversible at this time or not.
