Hi Arsi
Your link is for Arthritis. We are discussing treating Hepatitis C in the presence of cirrhosis not the treatment of cirrhosis itself.
Best regards

It is very difficult to treat liver cirrhosis because it is end stage of liver failure which may cause death.Learn all about Liver cirrhosis and its causes visit http://healthncare.info/arthritis-symptoms-treatment-types-causes/

Hi Jeanlee
Here is the medical definition for liver inflammation and degree of fibrosis it sounds like you may be fibrosis of 3 which is almost cirrhosis but can also vary depending on where they take the biopsy sample and mostly they score F3 and F4 together.

Here is what I found:

Grade: degree of inflammation, piecemeal or bridging necrosis
Grade 0: no / minimal inflammation
Grade 1: portal inflammation or lobular inflammation without necrosis
Grade 2: mild periportal inflammation and piecemeal necrosis or focal hepatocellular necrosis
Grade 3: moderate periportal inflammation and piecemeal necrosis or severe focal cell damage
Grade 4: severe periportal inflammation and piecemeal necrosis or bridging necrosis

Stage: degree of fibrosis
Stage 0: no fibrosis
Stage 1: enlarged fibrotic portal tracts
Stage 2: periportal fibrosis or portal to portal septa, without architectural distortion
Stage 3: bridging fibrosis with architectural distortion, no obvious cirrhosis
Stage 4: cirrhosis (probable or definite)

Good luck with your treatment

There are some on this forum who treated with interferon and have cirrhosis.
Hopefully they will come along with their advice and experience.

What does your doctor say?

Hi are you drinking water?  Dehydration can be insidious and can cause a host of problems.
I hope you can begin treatment soon.

Thank you so much for the information.  I had read that they had negotiated a lower price, I did not realize it tied in with income.
Thank you

I never thought of the pricing being consistent with annual income of a country's population.  I'm glad this issue is coming to light, along with coverage and cost thereof with insurance companies.

Hi Dee.    I have read a similar article and they base the price on the annual income of the population of various country's.    So in reality even tho it seems low to us elsewhere, in many other parts of the world many are living below the poverty level.     Sad but true as the poorest country's also, have the highest rates of HCV/HIV.          Kim..

Nan I just read an article that said that in other countries the tx is 1% the cost of the US.
I wonder why?
Even if it is expensive it still have to be cheaper than a liver transplant and all associated issues.

Jeanlee14, glad to hear,  let us know how you are doing :)
Take Care

I live in the USA.
Unfortunately, Sovaldi currently costs $1000 per pill here. Luckily the cost is being covered by my husband's health insurance. There is a big uproar right now pressuring Gilead to lower the cost.  I just read today that the cost of this pill is much less in Egypt where there is a high incidence of HCV.

Hello! If I were you I would treat.  The newer treatments are so much better side effect wise, shorter duration, more effective.

I was a 1A with signs of cirrhosis and was advised to treat right away.
I used the Incivek triple.

Good luck to you

My husband is 1a with cirrhosis and is on sovaldi + ribavirin treatment (now in week 10).  He has symptoms of decompensation (HE and portal hypertension). The treatment has increased his episodes of HE so it hasn't been easy for him but he is undetected for the virus and all his labwork has improved greatly. This has prevented his liver from decompensating further. He has no edema, no ascites and no varices.  I don't know if he will reach svr or not but if not he will be closer to a better treatment down the road. In the meantime, his liver is healing itself as shown by all of the improved numbers AST/ALT/Billirubin are now all in or close to normal range.
So my advice is if no other treatment is available to you, go ahead with this one.

Good luck to you.
Nan
