Is gaining weight when sick normal?

I have been sick for about a week and in that time I've gained 8 pounds. 2 I just gained since yesterday. I dunno if it's water weight, waste, fat or what but It's quite a let down. I have been taking different medicines, everything from Advil, Musinex to antibiotics from the doctor.

Is this normal? It's really upsetting.
Thanks.

Please call your dr. and let them know how much weight you have gained.  They might want additional testing.  But, please do call them.  I wish you the best and hope you feel better soon.

I would have my thyroid tested. Low thyroid will put weight on you pronto and it also makes you feel sick. Do you have low energy? Is so, get a thyroid test. It may be you have hypothyroidism. Until you can get a test and on medication, try taking kelp tablets. They will help you until you can get on the right meds.

Maybe the reason you are gaining weight is because of the medications you were being prescribed for your illness. If you're an active person and you've been sedentary while sick this may also add to your weight gain.
